Following the success of Springwatch,
the BBC were keen to adapt the award
winning format as Autumnwatch.
CBeebies Autumnwatch is a pre-school edition of the popular BBC programme
that observes changes in nature and the behaviour of animals throughout
the season of Autumn.
David McCue and Hugo Glover were commissioned to develop the branding,
title sequence and content graphics for CBeebies Autumnwatch.
CBeebies Autumnwatch was nominated
for a Television BAFTA for the Best Pre-school series Category.
You can view pre-production artwork, stroryboards and photographs
documenting the development
of the project here
The collaborative creative direction and design development phase led to a tactile and engaging world which was handmade and full of fun.
The designs focused on the themes of hibernation which inspired the set to
become almost a cosy patchwork quilt
made entirely of soft fabrics. This was reflected in the characters themselves.
The palette was inspired by the rich, warm, rusty colours associated with autumn and nocturnal activity of the animal characters.
