CBeebies Springwatch is the children's edition of the popular BBC programme
that observes the changes in nature
and the behaviour of animals throughout
the season of Spring.
David McCue and Hugo Glover
collaborated on all aspects of the design, direction and production of a brand new Cbeebies series commission.
The Brief required the creation of a programme identity, title sequence and additional animated content graphics
such as stings, wipes, lower thirds,
credits & end board.
CBeebies Springwatch won a Television BAFTA for Best Pre-school Series. Subsequently on the strength, popularity
and quality of the programme a second series was commissioned.
You can view pre-production artwork
and photographs documenting the
development of the project here
The project was quickly realised through
a research and development phase of drawing storyboards and timing animatics.
David and Hugo worked towards creating appealing characters and a tactile
hand-made environment that combined
crisp cardboard and acetate cut-outs
and vintage fabrics. The bright, fresh
palette reflected the themes of growth, renewal and the zesty colours associated with the season of Spring.
The binoculars and magnifying glasses where a fun way of encouraging a call
to action for children to become "nature detectives" and explore changes in the
world around them.
