CBeebies 'Springwatch': Production Process.
1 - 7
Character design and development: cut-out puppetry
Set Design and Development: Exploring cut-outs, pattern, colour and texture.
Materials: japanese oragami paper, copper wire, lighting gels, paint stained cardboard.
Set Design and Development: creating a 3-D environment with cut outs and balsa wood/
rough sawn pine model 'hides'.
Production: Introducing light and creating atmosphere
Production: configuring the set as a modular design to construct the best possible compositions for each shot in camera.
Production: Exploring lenses, depth of field and in-camera effects such as magnification. Working in this way significantly reduced applying digital visual effects in post production, looked better and was much more fun.
An example of a production background plate showing the final outcome of the design. The digital 2-D character animations were composited into the photographed environment using tracking markers and Adobe After Effects.
